grapes, fig, persimmon, quince, apple, pear, late peach, tangerine, walnut. all the soft summer fruit is pretty much picked or rotting off the trees, so I just have to wait for the autumn fruits now... they're kind of sexier, aren't they?... figs are more bacchanalian than apricots? I just watched two films. The Spiral Staircase, a David O. Selznick film from the thirties where Ricky Gervaise goes round murdering young women with "defects" which was splendid, and the tail end of How to Make an American Quilt, which happened to be on the telly when the DVD finished, a perfectly awful "bunch of old women in a house with a few dysfunctional daughters thrown in for good measure and they make a meaningful quilt" movie, after which I feel quite nauseated, although the nausea may have been exacerbated by the ice tea and snickers I just consumed, which were entirely necessary, as I needed to replace my peanut and sugar quotient after a hard weekend teaching the girls to ride bicycles and weeding and watering and trying to pick fruit from the top of tall trees without breaking my neck... I feel I may have to invent myself a contraption... there are three avocados four metres up a tree that are threatening to crash down with all their gooey green pre-guacamole onto a hard concrete floor... actually, a spongey bush might be a good thing to grow under the enormously tall avocado tree, so the poor baby avocados don't crash down to an explosive death. I HATE the way Merkan newsreaders read the news, with all those irrelevant head movements, semi~ironic smiles, and strange, unnatural phrasings. Will someone tell me why they do that? Yes, I am watching CBS news in the half hour it shows on Sky News at the end of the night... yes, time for bed and my battery's running out.... 7%, 6%, 5%.......
